Focusing on Sustainability
We’re proud to have achieved Gold-level certification by the Council for Responsible Sport for our sustainability efforts surrounding the TD Five Boro Bike Tour in 2016—and we need your help to keep up the good work in 2017! Whether you stop by Bike Expo New York or are participating in TD Five Boro Bike Tour as a cyclist, volunteer, or spectator, please do your part and help keep our event sustainable.
This includes placing trash (including food waste) in the proper Zero Waste Station receptacles, which are located at all major points of interest, like Bike Expo New York, Tour Rest Areas, the Finish Festival. And don’t forget the small stuff! Remember to peel the sticker off your banana and separate packaging from food waste before recycling. Please also look out for several specialty recycling options at Rest Areas, like for damaged bike tubes and foil snack bar wrappers, which are up-cycled by Terracycle.
We’re also really excited that GrowNYC’s textile recycling program will be at Bike Expo New York, so remember to bring your clean and dry clothing, paired shoes, linens, handbags, belts, and other reusable textiles to the Expo for collection.
Special thanks to our partners in sustainability, GrowNYC, NYC Zero Waste, Big Reuse, Queens Botanical Garden, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and Lower East Side Ecology Center. We couldn’t achieve these goals without you!
